The Sitter

2011
This is pretty much the whole movie.

Verdict: A modern-day 80s movie, but not quite as good as a real 80s movie.

This is a terrible movie. But now that that's been said, we can talk about how fun it is. It's basically a crass, vulgar, modern-day clone of Adventures in Babysitting (1987). The jokes are awful. The situations are ridiculous. The displays of bravado are over the top. But underneath it all is the same spirit that went into all those cheesy 80s movies we remember fondly, such as Weird Science (1985). I would like it a lot, except this movie actually isn't as good as those. For some reason this movie starts out silly and then tries to change into a touching message along the way, but the sappy moments are completely unconvincing. It would have been much better if it had stayed retarded the whole way, with more cute girls, better pop music, and maybe some inexplicable ninjas, thus inadvertently spawning a revival of cheesy 80s-style movies that would ultimately lead to the sequel to Big Trouble in Little China we've all been waiting for. It was so close, but not quite there.
