iPhone OS is not stable

Dear Steve Jobs,

I still haven't upgraded to iPhone OS 4 even though it's been available for about a year now.

A couple of friends have told me that their iPhone 3GS is really slow since they upgraded, that their apps and data repeatedly disappear, that they can't visit certain websites without a guaranteed browser crash. I experience none of these problems since I declined to upgrade.

Perhaps Apple doesn't want to put so much effort into supporting those obsolete 3G phones and hopes to push more users into buying the latest hardware. But that isn't like you. Apple has traditionally been a leader whom others mimic. It's not like you to reverse and adopt the shoddy practices of your followers. (I think you know what followers we're talking about here, wink, say no more.)

Please get back to me when the iPhone doesn't suck any more, and it's safe to upgrade.

Thanks,
A confused Apple user
